Car maintenance now costs us £300 a year.

The RACs latest survey indicates the cost of owning and running a car has increased by £539 pounds this year despite us making savings at the pumps.  Depreciation is still the biggest cost motorists face along with fuel and the cost of maintaining your car, which has also increased from £270 to £300 a year.  An RAC spokesman insists car owners must now get a better understanding of the true costs of running a car.  By doing so motorists will be better prepared for the expense they face.

Some garages are charging as much as £170 per hour for labour.

A Warranty Direct Survey has highlighted massive differences in the rates charged by garages.  The survey found some garages in the U.K. were charging as much as £170 per hour for labour and some as low as £23 per hour.  This massive gap has been put down to the difference between independent and franchised dealers.  However it has also been identified that there are big differences amongst what different independent garages charge and franchised dealers charge within the same area.  A Warranty Direct spokesman said that motorists can help themselves by finding out how much a garage charges for labour before they go because once you get the bill it is too late to question anything.
